Scoring methodology, data sources & calculations
FitA1C is a health intelligence dashboard designed for people managing diabetes. It pulls data from your connected devices — continuous glucose monitors, fitness trackers, and wearables — and combines them into a single daily health score on a 0-10 scale. The score gives you a quick, objective snapshot of how well you're managing glucose, staying active, recovering, and moving throughout your day. Important: FitA1C is NOT a medical device and does NOT provide medical advice. All default thresholds, goals, and scoring weights are starting-point presets that should be personalized in consultation with your healthcare provider. Every person's targets are different — what's right for one individual may not be appropriate for another. Always work with your doctor or endocrinologist to determine the correct values for your situation.
Your total FitA1C Score is a weighted average of up to four component scores, each on a 0-10 scale. When all integrations are connected, the default weights are: Glucose 50%, Activity 20%, Recovery 20%, Steps 10%. If you only have some integrations connected, the weights are automatically redistributed proportionally among the active components. For example, with only Glucose connected, it counts as 100% of your score.
The glucose score is based on your 7-day average glucose reading (mg/dL). It uses a threshold-based grading system with linear interpolation between grades. All glucose thresholds shown below are default presets and can be fully customized in Settings. Please work with your doctor to determine the right glucose targets for you — these will vary based on your type of diabetes, medications, and personal health goals.
| Grade | Avg Glucose (mg/dL) | Score Range |
|---|---|---|
| A | 120 or below | 10 (perfect) |
| B | 121 - 135 | 9 - 10 |
| C | 136 - 150 | 8 - 9 |
| D | 151 - 175 | 5 - 8 |
| F | Above 175 | 0 |
Values between thresholds are interpolated linearly. For example, a 7-day average of 128 mg/dL (halfway between A=120 and B=135) would score approximately 9.5.
The activity score is driven by your Strava data from the past 7 days. It considers both the number of activities and total training hours against your goals:
The recovery score is powered by WHOOP's daily recovery metric, which measures how prepared your body is to take on strain based on heart rate variability, resting heart rate, and sleep quality.
Daily steps are estimated from WHOOP strain data (WHOOP doesn't directly track steps). The score is calculated against your daily step goal:
If you don't have all integrations connected, FitA1C automatically redistributes the weights so they still sum to 100%. The redistribution is proportional — each active component's weight increases by the same factor. For example:
| Connected Services | Glucose | Activity | Recovery | Steps |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| All four | 50% | 20% | 20% | 10% |
| Glucose + WHOOP only | 63% | - | 25% | 13% |
| Glucose + Strava only | 71% | 29% | - | - |
| Glucose only | 100% | - | - | - |
FitA1C calculates an estimated A1C using the standard ADAG formula: Estimated A1C = (Average Glucose + 46.7) / 28.7. This uses your 90-day average glucose from your CGM readings. This is a mathematical estimate only — it is NOT a lab result and should never replace blood-based A1C testing. Your actual A1C may differ significantly. Always rely on lab results ordered by your healthcare provider for clinical decision-making.
The Score History chart shows your daily Total Score and individual component scores over time. This helps you identify patterns — for example, you might notice your glucose score dips on days after poor recovery, or that your overall score improves during weeks with more activity. Data is synced automatically and stored securely in the cloud.
Every default value in FitA1C is a preset that can and should be customized. From your Settings page, you can adjust glucose grade thresholds, activity count and duration targets, step goals, bonus ceilings, and the relative weight of each component in your total score. We strongly recommend reviewing these settings with your doctor or endocrinologist to ensure they reflect your personal health targets. What works for one person may not be appropriate for another — your care team knows your situation best.
FitA1C is a personal health tracking tool, NOT a medical device, and does NOT provide medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment recommendations. The scores, grades, and estimates displayed are informational only and are based on general-purpose default presets that may not be appropriate for your individual situation. All thresholds, goals, and scoring weights are fully customizable and should be personalized under the guidance of your healthcare provider. The estimated A1C is a mathematical approximation and should never be used as a substitute for lab testing. Always consult your doctor, endocrinologist, or qualified healthcare professional before making any changes to your diabetes management plan. Do not adjust medication, insulin dosing, or treatment based on FitA1C data alone. If you are experiencing a medical emergency, contact your doctor or call emergency services immediately.
